Germany took the first title!


European Junior Championships kicked off on Monday in Helsinki, when there was the first event in Diving. Event was opened first with flags of all 25 nations participating for diving. LEN Vice President Andriy Vlaskov opened Championships in front of the audience in Mäkelänrinne Swimming Center.

Jump Event took place with 12 mixed teams on the first day. Team Germany was victorious, Lena Hentschel, Lou Massenberg and Ludwig Schael achieving 294,45 points. Russia and Great Britain followed, both with four divers in their teams. Russia, the reigning European Junior Champion, with Uliana Kliueva, Grigory Ivanov, Aleksandr Lebedev and Maksim Malofeev earned 272,10 points. Great Britain with Benjamin Cutmore, Anthony Harding, Lucas Thomson and Victoria Vincent was only 2,7 points behind Russia.

For Germany it was a pleasant surprise to win the title:

– We did not expect to win, but anything can happen in a race like this. We didn't face any mistakes and we are super happy to win gold. It was great to hear our anthem already on the first day, it will boost some energy for the whole team, German divers celebrated.
